About MilitaryTime.com

A fast, accurate home for the 24-hour clock.

Nurses chart in it. Pilots fly by it. Recruits get yelled at until they know it. Most of the sites that explain military time are slow, cluttered, and sometimes wrong about how to say it.

Every conversion on this site comes from one small, tested piece of code. It is checked against all 1,440 minutes of the day before the site is published. If you find a mistake, it is a bug and we want to fix it.

Conventions we use

  • Spoken forms follow common US military usage: "seventeen thirty hours," "zero eight hundred hours."
  • Digits on the radio follow ICAO pronunciation: WUN, TOO, TREE, FOW-ER, FIFE, SIX, SEV-EN, AIT, NIN-ER.
  • Zone names use the official NATO spellings Alfa and Juliett.
  • Hospital shift times are the common patterns. Your facility may differ.
